Higgins – Downtown

Higgins Building Higgins DowntownThe Higgins Building is a historical building on the north end of Historic Core. It was originally built in 1910, and was one of the first earthquake and fire proof building in downtown when it was built a century ago. It is also one of the first historic buildings to be renovated, in 2003.

Besides it convenient location to the Art District, and the Financial district, the building also sports some popular destinations. This includes Fire Pit Pizza downstairs, and the Edison Club, maybe the most popular and eclectic club in downtown. There in fact, is a staircase that leads to the Edison from the Higgins Building. But you usually have to go through the front gate to enter the club.

The lofts have been created with Beaux-Art style. They have many original fixtures. Some of these include marble staircases,  iron doors, and iron-cage elevator.

Some features of the interior of the lofts include stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, 10 foot ceilings, concrete floors,  big windows, original tiles, and exposed brick.

There is a roof top with views of downtown Los Angeles. There is a BBQ pit there as well. On the ground level, in the middle of the Higgins Building, is a garden where you can lounge with others.

One of the financial advantages to the Higgings Building, besides its low prices, is that it’s approved for the Mills Act, which means you get anywhere from a 20% to 70% reduction off of your property tax.

Eastern Columbia

Eastern Columbia Building Eastern ColumbiaEastern Columbia is an Art Deco building; the designer built it with a creative flair not seen with many other buildings. It was created in the 1930′s for retail, and was converted into lofts in 2007.

One of the most interesting things about the Eastern Columbia building is its inhabitants. Some high profile people have bought in this building. This include Johnny Depp, who had the star role in the Disney Movies, Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2, 3, and John Stamos, who had one of the leading roles in the hit TV sitcom, Full House.

The building is very original. There is a gigantic clock on top of the Eastern Columbia building. The color of the building is turquoise, a very unusual color for a condo building. Historic Core has a reputation for being eclectic, and Eastern Columbia fits right into that mold.

It is located on Broadway St, on the south side. Broadway is known for many bargain shops. It is also near South Park.

It’s loft features include; 14 feet frame city views, showrooms that have been converted into living spaces, and newly constructed kitchens and baths.

Some amenities of the building include: a swimming pool, spa, fireplace,  and cabanas at the terrace. They also have a fitness center on another floor, and a landscape courtyard when you enter the building.

Rowan

Rowan Building RowanThe Rowan Lofts is in the “Old Bank District,” of Historic Core. It is surrounded by the Jewelry District, Fashion District, Gallery Row, The Toy District, and the downtown civic center.

It is walking distance to a plethora of eclectic restaurants galleries and shops. Some of the nearby restaurants include the Gorbals, and Pete’s Bar and Grill.

Like many of the other lofts surround historic core, it was once a commerical building in the early 1900′s. It was built by a legendary real estate mogul named Robert Rowan.  It has now been converted to residential lofts for people looking to live in the new bustling downtown district.

One of the things that distinguishes this building from the other historic buildings is it’s amenities. Unlike most of the other historic buildings in downtown, this building has a beautiful patio with barbecue pits, a hot spa, tables, and a place to walk your dog.

Some features of the interior include exposed original brick walls, oversized Mahagony windows, designer Italian kitchen, and new hardwood floors.

One nice feature of the interior is the amount of light that comes into the lofts. This occurs because of the unusually high number of windows to square footage.

Douglas Building

Douglas Building 1024x768 Douglas BuildingThe Douglas Building is located in the outer skirts of Historic Core, near the financial district towards the northern end of downtown. It is near the Disney Concert Hall, Mark Taper Forum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The loft building is one of the oldest in downtown. It was built in 1898 by a famous real estate mogul named Thomas Stimson. It was originally a commercial building.

In 2005, the building was renovated. It now serves as a residential building for people who enjoy the historical and artistic elements of downtown.

The one thing that distinguishes this building from several of the other “older” building in downtown is it’s cleanliness and it’s upkeep by the HOA management team. You would not suspect that this building is more than 110 years old based on the “feel” of the halls and rooms. It is definitely one of the most well kept buildings in downtown.

The Douglas lofts are considered to be “New York” style. Some features of the loft include high ceilings, exposed brick walls, and hardwood flooring.

El Dorado – Downtown

El Dorado El Dorado DowntownSome of the most beautiful lofts in Historic Core belong to El Dorado.

The building is located in the “old” banking district within Historic Core, a little bit east of the central downtown, It is convenient to much of the historic buildings in downtown, as well as some downtown restaurants such as “The Gorbals” and nightclubs.

When you walk into the lobby, you can feel the history of the building. There are beautiful paintings on the wall and a grand staircase that go back almost a century.

The lobby was known to be a social event hub in the 1920′s and although there have been renovations, much of that historic feeling still exists.

The lofts are laid out very spaciously. Each loft has at least one balcony, some have two, and one unit has 3 balconies. The rooms also have many windows.

A park is being built right next to El Dorado, which will only add to the beauty of the landscape as well as the view.

Some of the features of the lofts include Granite countertops, Grohe kitchen counter, and Snaidero Italian bathroom cabinets.

The location is prime for downtown. Some places you can walk to include; The Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Mark Taper Forum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
